Primary, secondary and tertiary hyperparathyroidism mnemonic

This idea was submitted by Keto. It helps go through Calcium and Phosphorous levels very quickly.

The values are somewhat logical and can be thought through.. But if you're on ward or on a board exam this can be handy.

Hyperparathroidism mnemonic

The diagrams helps you answer if PO4- and Ca2+ is increased or decreased in which condition.

Primary hyperparathyroidism:
PTH increased
Ca2+ high
PO4-  low

Secondary hyperparathyroidism:
PTH increased
Ca2+ normal/low
PO4-  high

Tertiary hyperparathyroidism:
PTH increased
Ca2+ high
PO4- high

That's all!

Thanks Keto for the brilliant notes.

  1. Hi!

Just make sure that the "10" is still a normal value.. so it would actually be shifted a bit to the left on the X axis..

    Have a great day.
