Study group discussion: ESR, HbA1c and diabetes

Did you know the ESR in diabetic patient may be elevated in the absence of overt infection?

The degree of ESR elevation correlates with the the percent glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c).

Theoretically, one can say that glycosylation of hemoglobin inside the RBC's makes them heavier than normal and makes them sediment faster. (I didn't find any references on this in literature.)
